The rules

The rules Patch calls by.

Plenty of calling tools publish a list of things you shouldn't do and leave it there. Patch's rules are built into how it dials, speaks and stores, so they hold even when someone asks it not to follow them.

01 · Who Patch calls

Calls people expect.

Patch is for the calls you would make yourself, if you had the time and patience for the hold music.

  1. Businesses, and people expecting your call

Restaurants, shops, surgeries, banks, councils, delivery firms. And people who know to expect you: your plumber, your landlord, the venue for Saturday.

    How it's enforced

Before the first call to any new number, Patch shows you who it's about to ring and waits for your tap, even when your assistant asked for the call.

  2. Never for these

No calls that someone on the other end didn't sign up for.
    • Telemarketing
    • Sales
    • Surveys
    • Harassment
    • Pranks
    • Impersonation
    How it's enforced

Requests are checked before anything is dialled, and Patch ends a call that turns into one of these. It won't place the same call to a list of numbers.

  3. Never emergency or premium numbers

If you need the emergency services, call 999 yourself. Patch won't ring them, and it won't ring premium-rate lines that bill the caller.

    How it's enforced

999, 112 and premium-rate numbers (09 and 118 ranges) are blocked at the dialler. There is no setting to unblock them.

02 · On the line

Honest about what it is.

Patch speaks for you, politely, and never pretends to be someone it isn't.

  1. Never claims to be you, or a human

Patch introduces itself as an assistant calling on your behalf. Asked whether it's an AI, it says yes, every time.

    How it's enforced

Built into every voice and speaking style. Renaming your assistant or picking a different manner changes how it sounds, never whether it tells the truth.

  2. Never handles card numbers, PINs or passwords

When a business needs security details, that part is yours. Patch brings you on the line with Join, then carries on once you hand back.

    How it's enforced

Patch won't ask you for these, won't take them from your assistant, and won't read them out. When verification comes up, it asks you to join. While you're on, your part isn't transcribed.

  3. Asks before calling a new number

A call to somewhere Patch hasn't rung for you before needs your OK, even if your assistant found the number.

    How it's enforced

New numbers wait for an Allow from you in the app or notification. Nothing is dialled until you tap it.

03 · Limits

A short lead, by design.

Limits keep Patch useful for you and harmless for everyone else.

  1. Per-number and daily limits

There's a cap on how often any one number can be called, and a daily cap on every account. Patch is for your errands, not for dialling in bulk.

    How it's enforced

Limits are checked at the dialler for every call, including ones your assistant places.

  2. Stop means stop

Anyone who asks not to be called again is never called again.

    How it's enforced

Patch ends the call politely and adds the number to our do-not-call list on the spot. No user can call it through Patch after that.

  3. Abuse means suspension

Breaking these rules gets your account suspended.

    How it's enforced

We review reports from people Patch has called. Accounts used for any of the calls above are suspended.

04 · Your data

Kept short, and yours.

What Patch keeps from a call, and for how long.

  1. Recording is off by default

Patch doesn't keep audio of your calls unless you choose to turn recording on.

    How it's enforced

Off for every new account. If you turn it on, it still pauses while you're on the line.

  2. Transcripts kept 30 days

Long enough to check what was agreed or find a reference number. Then they're gone.

    How it's enforced

Transcripts are deleted automatically after 30 days. The outcome summary stays in your call history until you remove it.

  3. Delete any time

Delete any call, transcript or recording from the app, whenever you like. We don't sell or share them.

    How it's enforced

Deleting a call removes it and its transcript straight away. Deleting your account removes everything.

If Patch called you

Patch is an AI assistant, calling on behalf of one of its users about something they need: a booking, a delivery, an account. It introduces itself by the name its user chose, such as Alex. Ask it anything you'd ask a person calling for someone else, including whether it's an AI. It will say yes.

If you'd rather not get calls from Patch, just say so on the call. It will end the call politely, and your number won't be called through Patch again.
